Dr. Wright is an innovator in minimally invasive head and neck surgery, and at present is the only surgeon in the United States who is able to offer a “scarless” totally endoscopic thyroidectomy. He has been working with his colleage, Dr. Thom Lobe, a world leader in pediatric laparoscopic abdominal and thoracic surgery, to develop and refine minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Together, they have performed the first totally endoscopic thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy surgeries in this country, and are the most experienced surgeons outside of Asia for these techniques.

Dr. Wright attended Medical School at The Medical College of Wisconsin and underwent Residency training at The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dr. Wright has presented his techniques at wide variety of academic meetings in the United States and Europe, and has published results in scientific journals.

Minimally Invasive Robot-Assisted Vagal Nerve Stimulator Placement. Dr. Wright is also one of the most experienced head and neck surgeons with the emerging discipline of robotic head and neck surgery. He is the first surgeon in the country offering this service on a regular basis: totally endoscopic VNS placement with surgical robot assist. This is an anti-seizure and anti-depression indicated medical implant which normally involves a large visible neck incision. Using advanced robotics and endoscopic techniques, the device can be placed through an underarm incision with no neck incision.

Dr. Wright works at the ENT Clinic of Iowa, P.C., a single-specialty private head and neck surgery practice in Des Moines, Iowa. His clinic services all of central Iowa with satellite clinics in Centerville, Iowa and Winterset, Iowa. Dr. Wright operates at both major medical centers in Des Moines, including Mercy Medical Center and Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Dr. Lobe is a pediatric laparoscopic surgeon who is at Blank Children’s Hospital and a part of the Iowa Health System. They have been working together performing minimally invasive head and neck surgery since 2003.
