Meet Dr. Simon Wright
At present, very few thyroid surgeons are trained to perform minimally invasive, video-assisted thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Dr. Wright has been doing this procedure since 2002 and is the most experienced video-assist surgeon in the region, as well as one of the most experienced minimally invasive head and neck surgeons.
Dr. Wright has been working with Dr. Thom Lobe — a leading minimally invasive pediatric surgeon — on their totally endoscopic thyroidectomy procedure. Together, they have the nation's largest experience with this approach.
Many of Dr. Wright's patients are children or young adults. He is one of a few surgeons in the nation who is experienced in performing transaxillary head and neck surgery, in which the incision is made in the underarm area to reduce visible scarring.
He is one of the most experienced robotic neck surgeons in the country and the most experienced for the transaxillary approach. He developed other transaxillary surgical approaches to the neck and is actively developing new applications for less invasive surgery of the head and neck region.
Dr. Wright practices in Des Moines, Iowa, at ENT Clinic of Iowa, where he provides minimally invasive and robotic head and neck services. He operates at the major hospitals in Des Moines and also trains medical students and surgical residents.
